Content:  It is not certain that Agassiz, Erichson & Germar, 1845 accepted Mictides Amyot & Serville, 1843 as non-vernacular. The spelling used by Dallas, 1852 is definitely a latinization, so validating the tribal name with date and authorship Amyot & Serville, 1843. The family-group taxon Helcomeraria was established only in the title of Breddin, 1903a. O’Shea & Schaefer, 1978: 782 claimed, incorrectly, that the original spelling was Helcomararia. The tribe was divided into four informal genus groups by O’Shea, 1980c and O’Shea & Schaefer, 1980. The composition of each group is as follows. Anoplocnemis group: Amygdonia, Anoplocnemis, Cossutia, Dianomictis, Dollingocoris, Elasmocnema, Fumua, Mygdonia, Puppeia, Mictis abstrusa, Lygaeus phasianus sensu Wolff, 1801; Plectropoda group: Callichlamydia, Cipia (except C. guttipes), Elasmopoda, Haglundina, Myrrhina, Neaira, Odontobola, Phyllogonia, Plectropoda, Plectropodoides, Schwetzia, Thryallis; Mictis group: Aspilosterna, Aurelianus, Mercennus, Mictiopsis, Mictis (except M. abstrusa), Neomictis, Notobitopsis, Pseudomictis, Pternistria, Xyrophoreus, Cipia guttipes; Derepteryx group: Breddinella, Canungrantmictis, Derepteryx, Helcomeria, Kennetus, Molipteryx, Notopteryx, Ochrochira, Prionolomia, Prionolomiopsis, Rhamnomia, Schroederia, Elasmomia serrata. Unplaced in any genus group: Allocara, Ditora, Kolleriella, Pseudophelaus, Pachylis obscura. Within the Plectropoda group, O’Shea recognised the ‘Elasmopoda complex’ comprising: Elasmopoda, Haglundina, Myrrhina, Neaira, Plectropoda and Thryallis. All unplaced genera are Afrotropical, as are most of the Anoplocnemis group and all of the Plectropoda group. Some species of the genus Anoplocnemis and all members of the Mictis and Derepteryx groups are Asian.
